This was the first time I tried to photograph a person, other than as a part of a larger scene. I had always shied away from photographing people, but I liked the possibilities I saw in other photographers' portrait and nude work. I commissioned my beautiful wife, Terri, and the first-time model and first-time portraitist set to work in a jury-rigged studio by a window.
The resulting work was like a lot of first efforts: many of the photographs were awkward or poorly lit. However, I like this photograph very much – it reminds me of Terri's thoughtful, daydreaming personality.
As is the case with all of my work, this photograph has not been digitally enhanced. All details have been preserved, and none have been added: apart from its transition to black and white from the colour slide, this photograph is true to the original.
